Plan the room conditions, subfloor checks and finishing details before your floor arrives.

Agree the sequence of work
Speak to your installer before arranging delivery. Wet work such as plastering or screeding should be completed and sufficiently dry for the installation. Make sure the building is protected from the weather and that the intended room conditions can be maintained. A delivery date should fit the preparation timetable rather than drive it.
Have the subfloor assessed
Ask your fitter to check moisture, flatness, cleanliness and structural soundness using the methods required for the chosen product. New screed should not be judged ready simply because it looks dry. Agree any levelling or moisture-control work in advance, and keep the relevant test results and installation records.
Follow the product’s storage instructions
Confirm where the packs should be stored and the acclimatisation procedure for the exact floor. Requirements can vary, including whether packs remain sealed and how long they are held in the room. Do not apply one fixed waiting period to every product. Underfloor heating installations also need the relevant commissioning and fitting procedure.
Prepare the room details
Clear the working area and discuss door clearances, skirting, thresholds, pipe covers and changes in floor level. Agree the board direction and any patterned layout before fitting begins. Check the product, quantity and visible condition on delivery, and raise questions before installation rather than once the boards have been fitted.
